The glorious history of 20th Century Fox, creator of “The Sound of Music”

Paying homage to Fox's 85-year history

20th Century Fox produced many Academy Award-winning films, including Darryl F. Zanuck's " Gentleman's Agreement " and John Ford's " How Green Was My Valley " in the 1940s, and " All About Eve " (1950) in the 1950s. In order to compete with the rise of TV, the company released the first CinemaScope film, " The Robe " (1953), and was ahead of its rivals in reforming the format.

Since "The Sound of Music," 20th Century Fox has revolutionized science fiction films with the " Planet of the Apes " series (1968-), the " Star Wars " series and the " Alien " series (1979-), pushed action back to the level of ordinary humans with the " Die Hard " series (1988-), and rewrote box office records with " Titanic " (1997) and " Avatar " (2009).

Now that the acquisition by Walt Disney has been decided and people are curious about how the company will be handled, we would like to once again pay our respects to the history of this Hollywood major that has led the film industry for 85 long years since its founding in 1934.
