20th Century Fox has left a bright mark on film history as one of the major Hollywood companies. The world has created masterpieces in a variety of genres, from John Ford's Westerns and films starring Marilyn Monroe to social dramas such as `` Gentleman's Agreement '' (1947) and the `` Star Wars '' series (1977-). Although the company has produced many products, it once faced an existential crisis. The Zanuck family who rescued Fox

It was Fox founder Darryl F. Zanuck who saved the day. Zanuck temporarily left Fox in 1956 and established an independent production company, but when he learned that the progress of `` The Greatest Operation in History '' (62), which he had produced himself and was scheduled to be distributed by Fox, was not going well. Returned to management of Fox. He succeeds in rebuilding the company's foundation by firing the company's president, Spiros Scolas, who was unable to control the budget overruns on ``Cleopatra,'' and appointing his son Richard D. Zanuck as production director.

The historical hit ``The Sound of Music'' (1965) is said to have been produced by Richard D. Zanuck as a comeback film, and is said to have made up for the loss of ``Cleopatra.''

Calling it a historical hit is not an exaggeration. The film, released in the United States on April 1, 1965, became the top box office hit in Japan in 1965, and in November 1966, Gone with the Wind (39) held the top spot for 24 years. It took over the top spot in domestic box office revenue. The final box office gross of approximately $160 million domestically and over $280 million worldwide is, after adjusting for inflation, the same amount as Gone with the Wind, Star Wars Episode 4╱ It ranks third in history after "A New Hope" (77). By the way, three of the top five movies are from Fox. ( *See boxoffice mojo )
