Explosive vintage cars such as “Vanishing Point”

It is true that the Russ Meyer mark in "Death Proof" is just a factor (though it does resemble Moro, such as the final scene where the strong women go on a rampage in the wilderness), and the specific is a passionate homage to the car action movies of yesteryear. In the movie, the main character, a stuntman named Mike (Kurt Russell), says this line to a beautiful blonde, Pam (Rose McGowan).

`` Vanishing Point '' (1971/Director: Richard C. Sarafian), `` Dirty Mary/Crazy Larry '' (1974/Director: John Hough), `` Bakuso Truck '76 '' (1975/ (Director: Jonathan Kaplan)...Movies back then had real cars driven by real people."

Following these great precedents, the car action in ``Death Proof'' does not include any unnecessary VFX. A camera is installed directly on the car, and the vintage car is driven at speeds of 120km to 160km, and the driver's amazing skills actually cause it to roll over and crash. The big American cars that drive around wildly with roaring engines are truly sensual.

In the first half, stuntman Mike rides a brutally modified 1970 Chevrolet Nova SS (death-proof version). The ominous skull mark painted on the hood gives me a Chuunibyou-like feel. After that was destroyed, he switched to a 1969 Dodge Charger. By the way, in ``Dirty Mary: Crazy Larry,'' star Peter Fonda drives his own Chevrolet Impala and Dodge Charger.

In the second half, Mike engages in a fierce car chase in a white 1970 Dodge Challenger, the same model that appeared in ``Vanishing Point.'' Regarding the car's "casting," Tarantino says excitedly: "It's like the car from that movie is making a guest appearance!"

Set in rural Lebanon, Tennessee, this Dodge Challenger is piloted by a team of tough women. "Vanishing Point" is one of the masterpieces of American new cinema, in which the main character Kowalski (Barry Newman), possessed by nothingness, just keeps stepping on the accelerator, but that masculine loneliness and destruction are brought to life by the sisterhood (solidarity of women). I think the sight of people being replaced by the cheerfulness of the movie is a truly modern update, even if you look at it with modern (2019) eyes.
