Streisand and Redford

Barbra Streisand, who played Katy, a Jewish American, was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress and won the Best Original Song for the same song, singing " The Way We Were, " which became a hit. be. After achieving success on Broadway, sharing an Oscar with Katharine Hepburn for ``The Lion in Winter '' for ` `Funny Girl'' (68), and proving her popularity as an actress with ``The Way We Were'', Streisand began working in Hollywood. She is considered a leading figure in establishing the status of Jewish women in film.

After her appearance, actresses with similar roots dominated Hollywood in the 1970s, including Dyan Cannon, Jill Clayburgh, Goldie Hawn, Barbara Hershey, and Bette Midler.

On the other hand, the beauty of Robert Redford, who was 36 years old at the time of the photo shoot and was a representative of WASP (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant), a term coined to refer to the American elite, contrasted sharply with Streisand. Needless to say, it is. Her refreshing athleticism from her university days, her beautiful facial expressions and blonde hair that captivate the audience's attention in the scene where she sleeps while standing up in a white military uniform, make it seem like she was born to play Havel. It is no exaggeration to say that the exquisite combination of romance and politics was made possible by the contrasting personalities of the two actors.

A sequel that never happened

Ten years after the film's release, Arthur Laurents pitches Redford the idea for a sequel. It was about a feud between Havel and Katie's daughter, but Redford was not satisfied with it and it was shelved. In 1982, a draft idea for a sequel proposed by Ray Stark was presented to Lorenz via Sidney Pollack, but this too was never realized. Furthermore, in 1996, a luxurious project was proposed that would be written by Lorenz, directed and starring Streisand, and co-starring Redford, but that also fell through. In the meantime, time has passed quickly and we have arrived at the present day. It's probably one of the few one-of-a-kind films that Hollywood currently doesn't have the talent to remake. I feel like ``The Way We Were'' has that kind of added value.
