“Tootsie” synopsis

Actor Michael's recklessness has made him an enemy of producers all over New York, and he is unable to get any work. Michael, who finds himself in a difficult situation, disguises himself as a woman and goes to an audition calling himself "Dorothy", and successfully wins the big role. Everything was progressing smoothly, but when he fell in love with his co-star Julie, things started to go awry...

Dustin Hoffman was so overcome with emotion that he choked up at the end of the interview with the American Film Institute (AFI) in 2012. ``I don't think I was able to understand the true feelings of women and what was deep within their hearts until I played Dorothy Michaels.'' So, ``Tootsie'' (1982) made me realize that. It's so meaningful that it's not a comedy at all."

In "Tootsie," perfectionist actor Michael Dorsey, who shows no signs of success even at the age of 40, suddenly transforms into actress Dorothy Michaels and wins a regular role in a TV drama. In the blink of an eye, he became a popular figure in the household.

Renowned directors Barry Levinson and Elaine May were involved in the script for this film, which was finally completed by his friend and screenwriter Murray Sisgal (co-authored with Larry Gelbart). From the moment Hoffman received this, the preparation for the role began.

In the first place, Hoffman's interest in playing Dorothy stemmed from ``Cramer, Cramer,'' in which she played the role of a mother while also being a father.

Hoffman also discovered that adding a slight Southern accent to her words helped her pitch fit better and sound more feminine.

Now, all that's left is practice. When I tried attending my daughter's parent-teacher conference as Aunt Dorothy, none of the parents or teachers in attendance recognized Dustin Hoffman. When she appeared in the same outfit in front of her friends Jon Voight, Meryl Streep, and Katharine Ross, no one noticed. Shimeshime, this will work fine.
