A work directed by Redford that was loved by many people.
In 2019, Robert Redford's retirement film `` The Old Man & The Gun '' was released. Although he appears to be an ordinary gentleman at first glance, he is actually a veteran robber who has escaped from prison.
Redford is the undisputed "original" handsome star of Hollywood, but he was by no means just a sweet second-shot star. Although he was handsome, he was also a wild child who could not fit into the mold, as evidenced by his role in Sundance in his breakthrough film ` `Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid '' (69). Elegant atmosphere and wild taste. His exquisite balance is his characteristic, and his character was put to good use in this role of a gentleman robber.

In addition to being an actor, he also won the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Director for his directorial debut, Ordinary People (1980). He is also known as the organizer of the Sundance Institute, which fosters independent filmmaking. Among his directorial works, the one that has been loved by many people in Japan is probably ``A River Runs Through It'' in 1992.
The story takes place in the 1910s and 1920s, and the events of a family are told through sepia-toned photographs, as if recreating a lost family album. The story is set in Missoula, Montana, and the main characters are the McLean family, who find purpose in fishing in an environment blessed with great nature.
When you think about this movie, the first thing that comes to mind is the breathtakingly beautiful cinematography by Philippe Rousselot, who won an Academy Award for Best Cinematography. The flow of the river and the greenery of the forest are vivid and the refreshing scenery comes back to life. Mark Isham's music is modest and delicate, as if nestled in that natural environment, and it sinks into your heart. This work was not created with the aim of becoming a huge commercial hit, but rather has a style that conveys that he approached the landscape and characters with sincerity.
And the dazzling presence of young Brad Pitt, who plays the role of a fishing genius. I think I was really lucky as a director to have met a new actor who reminded me of Redford in his youth, and who seemed to be his alter ego. The film is memorable for its main characters' fly fishing scenes, and Redford caught a truly unknown big fish in the form of Brad Pitt.
Redford took on the challenge of writing a novel that seemed impossible to make into a movie.
