"A River Runs Through It" A masterpiece created by a fateful encounter between Robert Redford and Brad Pitt

What Brad Pitt told me when he was new
In fact, I once interviewed Brad Pitt over the phone (in March 1993) right after he appeared in this movie. At that time, only `` Thelma & Louise '' (1991) had been released in Japan, and I was able to get an interview in the form of a promotional offer for my next film, `` Johnny Suede '' (1991). It was a rough interview in which Brad was summoned (something that would be unthinkable now that he has become a huge star).
Pitt, a newcomer, was very friendly and responded to the interview with a cheerful way of speaking. He is particular about his tastes in directors and actors, and at the time he was delighted to be working with director Neil Jordan on a new film (he had just been cast in `` Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles '' (1994)). ``A River Runs Through It'' had already been released in the United States, so when I asked him about this movie, he gave me the following answer.
"It's really great to work with a director as special as Robert Redford. This movie is about a family, and I play one of the young men in the family, and he suddenly becomes... He is starting to walk towards the wrong life. He tries hard in his own way, but he still lacks something and eventually falls apart. Anyway, I think he's the type of person I can understand best."

He auditioned for the role, but didn't like his first performance, so he re-acted another scene and that was the deciding factor in getting the role of Paul (the audition included the late River Phoenix appears to have also participated).
Since Los Angeles doesn't have a large river to practice on, he reportedly practiced poses on the roof of a building. Regarding fly fishing, he said in a telephone interview, ``At first it was difficult and I was very frustrated. It was also difficult to practice, but over time I started to realize how much fun it was.'' .
In later years, when he looked back on his role as Paul, he made the harsh comment, ``Actually, I think my acting at that time was weak,'' but in this movie, his acting skills were surpassed and his very presence really shined. (Who wouldn't be charmed by that refreshing smile?) The fly fishing scenes are also spectacular, and the beauty of their poses will be etched into your memory forever. As an actor, Redford has both an intelligent and wild face, but when you watch the McClain brothers in this movie, you get the feeling that the older brother is entrusted with intelligence and the younger brother is entrusted with wildness. (In other words, the two of them Redford?)
Redford and Pitt then co-starred in `` Spy Game '' (2001) and showed their close friendship. Redford was active on the production side, directing and running the Sundance Institute, but Brad also started his own production company, Plan B, and produced `` 12 Years a Slave' '. He won the Academy Award for Best Picture for `` Dawn '' (13) and `` Moonlight '' (16). The director's talent and ability to discern plans is extraordinary.

As an actor, he played the role of a failed stuntman in the new film ` `Once Upon a Time in Hollywood '' (2019). His fearless wildness is put to good use in the scene where he visits a hippie commune and in the transcendent action scenes, making him a character that allows you to rediscover his charm (the face that looks down suddenly looks exactly like Redford in middle age!) .
