Capturing the hearts of young women and becoming a hit in Japan



The cast of ``The Grand Budapest Hotel'' is a cast that movie buffs will salivate over, but it's director Wes' unique visual sense that attracts young people.


A candy-like hotel with a pink theme, cute accessories that you would find in a general store, vivid and noble costumes, a picture book-like symbolic composition, and things progress with the characters facing forward. Anime-like production...the examples are endless. Among them, the cake shop "MENDL'S" that appears in the movie became a pop icon and gained explosive popularity. FOX Searchlight, the distributor, even officially made a special video showing how to make the famous cake ``Cautesan au Chocolat''.

This is what we would now call an ``Instagrammable'' movie, and it gives the impression that it has reached even young women who are deeply interested in fashion, art, and design. It would be weak if only stylish items appeared, but the fact that all the scenes are ``photogenic'' increases the desire to watch the movie, and viewers who go to the theater post it on SNS, spread the word, and eventually ``watch it''. It changes into one status. As the fashion-conscious generation flocked to the film, the work became apotheosis, and director Wes became a ``creator popular with women.'' The premise is that ``the work is interesting,'' and it can be inferred that this is the reason why director Wes, who was a popular cinephile, has become so popular in Japan.

The extent to which we were able to capture new demographics is clearly reflected in our results. The film's domestic box office revenue exceeded 345 million yen. It was a huge hit, about three times that of `` Moonrise Kingdom .'' When the box office revenue exceeded 300 million yen, there were 18 theaters showing the movie, so naturally each theater was full. It became one of Wes' most popular films.


In terms of recent movies, `` Call Me by Your Name '' (17) had box office revenue of over 300 million yen in Japan. Considering that the fever was on a par with or exceeding that of that work, it may be easier to imagine the "fever" that this work caused.
