Talents recognized by A24 following the director of “Hereditary”

It should also not be forgotten that "Hot Summer Nights" is a production by the up-and-coming studio A24. A24 is a distribution and production company that has been attracting attention in Japan, having been featured in magazines such as "POPEYE" and "anan," but it was founded in 2012 and is relatively new.

After making a name for itself with the success of " Spring Breakers " (2013) and "The Bling Ring " (2013), the company became a pioneer of independent studios with " Room " (2015), in which Brie Larson, who plays Captain Marvel, won an Oscar. The company has released a series of highly original works, including " Ex Machina " (2015), " Moonlight " (2016), " The Lobster " (2016), " Swiss Army Man " (2016), " 20th Century Women " (2016), " A Ghost Story " (2017), " The Florida Project " (2017), and " Hereditary " (2018).

A24's filmmaking style is to actively discover new creators and create unprecedented fun. Like Ari Aster of "Hereditary" and Bo Burnham of " Eighth Grade " (2018), Elijah Bynum, a rising star who made his feature film directorial debut with this film, is also a talented person who was noticed by the studio.

Set in 1991, the film starts off with colorful colors, a fast-paced plot, and edgy direction, but then slows down the tempo and direction in the second half to highlight the human drama that leads to ruin. Not only is the visuals and direction impressive, but the story's shifts from high to low are extremely smooth, making you feel as if you are in a car driven by a veteran driver. The film arrives at its destination without ever getting caught in traffic, allowing the audience to enjoy the 107 minutes in comfort.

Director Bynum's cunning is innate, as he is able to pack in a huge amount of information, embellish with color, and still bring a sense of calm to the story. What's even more frightening is that he was only four years old in 1991, the year the film is set. Despite barely experiencing it in real time, he manages to perfectly capture the atmosphere of the era. What a talent!
