"True Lies" Schwarzenegger and Cameron, the golden ratio of "fight" and "laughter" established by the T2 duo

``Movie love'' that makes viewers smile within the first few minutes
Before moving on to the content, may I just say one thing? From now on, I would like to write "Schwarzenegger" instead of "Schwarzenegger". The reason is simple. It makes me remember the time when I watched the movie and it makes me excited. I apologize for going off on a tangent right away, but I hope you will bear with me.
Well, the beginning of this film was when Schwarzenegger watched the French comedy "La Totale!" (1991). Schwarzenegger loved the film so much that he contacted his old friend, director Cameron, and asked him to direct a remake of it. Cameron readily agreed, and the project got underway.
At the time, Cameron was struggling with what to do next after Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), which had been a huge hit with a box office gross of $519 million worldwide. The film adaptation of 24 Billy Milligan had stalled, and the live-action version of Spider-Man was also on the rocks (Cameron had envisioned Leonardo DiCaprio for Peter Parker and Schwarzenegger for Doc Ock). This was a struggle unique to director Cameron, who was the most popular hitmaker in the industry, but the love call he received from his old friend Schwarzenegger at such a time may have been a kind of "salvation."
That's because True Lies exudes a sense of liberation, akin to happiness, at every turn. For example, in the opening scene, Harry infiltrates a mansion overlooking a Swiss lake. He emerges from the bottom of the lake in a diving suit and, when he takes it off, reveals a tuxedo underneath. Although he's not wearing a waterfowl on his head, it's a 1964 Bond film, Goldfinger . Afterwards, he blends in with the crowd, showing off his fluent French and Arabic, dances a passionate tango with a beautiful woman, and engages in a speedy chase with guards on snowmobiles and skis.
Many people will have felt the joy of making a spy movie from this hilariously honest homage (you can also enjoy the unique Schwarzenegger technique of knocking out two Dobermans by banging their heads together). Cameron is a genuine movie fan who is so passionate about movies that he once said, "I quit my job after watching Star Wars (1977)." This film is filled with his creative excitement and love of movies.
Even if you just watch the opening sequence, there is not even a trace of pretentiousness such as "the director of the The Terminator series or Aliens (1986)". On the contrary, Cameron also voices the helicopter pilot and enthusiastically delivers lines such as "She's burying her head in her target's lap, whoosh!"

Besides the 007 homage, the film is full of playfulness, with Harry's dog named Gizmo, the same as in Gremlins (1984), and Harry's boss Spencer (Charlton Heston) modeled after the popular Marvel Comics character Nick Fury. The scene where Harry suspects his wife of cheating is full of laughs, with a Hitchcock-esque use of shadows.
Without fear of being misunderstood, it is full of the fun and excitement of a fan movie made by a super A-class cast, director, and staff as they please. As a result of giving it his all with this movie, the serious " Titanic " (1997) was born -- it makes you want to make such a supposition, Cameron's direction in "True Lies" looks so fun that you can't help but enjoy it.
Incidentally, the production design of this film was done by Peter Lamont, a veteran of the 007 series, the cinematography was done by Russell Carpenter, who later won an Oscar for Titanic , and the music was done by Brad Fiedel, who also worked on The Terminator series. The result of these amazing members having fun to their heart's content is a film that will make the viewer smile within just the first 3 or 4 minutes of the movie, True Lies.
