Fascinating casting that embodies the Lynchian world

Extremely mysterious, strange, difficult, yet humorous. Lynch's films are filled with a sense of voyeurism, as if the inside of his head has been transformed into an image. An actor's skill is put to the test when it comes to vividly recreating the complex and bizarre thoughts inside his head. Of particular note are Bill Pullman, who plays the main character Fred Madison, Patricia Arquette, who plays the femme fatale, and Balthazar Getty, who plays young Pete.

Speaking of Bill Pullman, he is best known for his role as the president of the United States in `` Independence Day '' (1996), as well as his role as the father in `` Casper '' (1995), and more recently for his portrayal of real-life politics in `` Vice '' (18). They also dress up as houses. Pullman often takes on traditional roles, but in "Lost Highway," he takes on the difficult role of a jazz musician arrested on suspicion of murdering his wife, breaking new ground as an actor. .

As mentioned above, director David Lynch hasn't left many hints for his films, but regarding this film, ``Lost Highway,'' he said, ``I was inspired by the O.J. Simpson incident.'' '' he says in his book.

The O.J. Simpson case is a case in which former professional football player O.J. Simpson allegedly murdered his ex-wife and her friend. Simpson, who had a warrant for his arrest, tried to evade police and engaged in a car chase with police on a Los Angeles freeway, which was broadcast live across the United States. Simpson was later acquitted in a criminal trial, but later found guilty in a civil trial. Although this incident is not well known in Japan, it is said to be extremely famous in the United States.

The character Fred, played by Bill Pullman, is clearly based on O.J. Simpson, and the intro at the beginning of the movie, in which he races down a highway at night, is a nod to the car chase between Simpson and the police. Is it? In any case, it is extremely rare for Lynch to clearly leave hints for his work.

Patricia Arquette, Fred's wife and the embodiment of the film's femme fatale, plays the dual roles of Renée and Alice. In recent years, I've been working on ``From 6 years old until I become an adult.'' She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for `` (2014), showing her presence even further. Renee and Alice, played by Patricia, are brunette (black hair) and Mulholland Drive (blond hair), respectively, giving off a completely different bewitching look. This is a style inherited from the character Betty.

Of particular note here is Balthazar Getty, who plays the young Pete Deighton. He made his debut with `` Lord of the Flies '' (1990), based on William Golding's novel of the same name, and has since directed ` `Natural Born Killers '' (1994), based on a novel by Quentin Tarantino, and `` The Judge, '' a film adaptation of a British comic. He has appeared in a wide range of films, including ``Dread '' (1995). His great-grandfather was businessman Jean Paul Getty, and his father was John Paul Getty III, a member of the wealthy Getty family.

Her father, King Getty III, is famous for the kidnapping incident. This story is about the kidnapping case of the century, in which King Getty III was kidnapped, and the kidnapper cut off Getty III's "ear" and sent it to his family in an envelope. (It was made into a movie as ``The All the Money in the World '' (17)). The severed "ear" also appears in Lynch's previous film, " Blue Velvet " (1986). I even feel a strange connection between Lynch's works and the Getty family.
