A monumental piece of 2000 cinema that continues to influence countless works to this day, the film's fame has only been further enhanced by the posthumous Oscar win for Heath Ledger, who played Batman's Joker, the Joker.

If the underlying theme of the previous film, "Batman Begins," was "fear," this film will depict "good and evil."Batman(Christian Bale), prosecutor Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), and police officer Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) team up to purify the increasingly corrupt Gotham City. At the same time, the incarnation of madness, the Joker(Heath Ledger), begins to move. How will they challenge an enemy who has no regard for money or power and simply enjoys destruction?

The "scales of good and evil" and "choices" that the Joker makes throughout the film, such as choosing between his lover and the prosecutor, and between a prisoner and a citizen, appeal strongly not only to the characters but also to our values. The mysteriousness and incomprehensibility of the Joker, whose "origins change depending on who he's talking to," also shocked audiences at the time. The contrast with " No Country for Old Men for Old Men" (2007), which created an impersonal villain, is also interesting.

The film is peppered with scenes that challenge the idea of what it means to be a hero, such as the scene where Batman is unable to run over the Joker and ends up being injured instead. Visually, the film is immersive, from the smooth opening bank robbery scene to the final scene, which closes with Gordon's narration, and doesn't feel two and a half hours long at all.

The film is worth digging into, with a series of behind-the-scenes details, such as the music that uses the "infinite scale" to heighten tension, a scene in which a hospital is blown up, and the design of the "Batpod" motorcycle, which was even tested. The cast and staff's attention to detail is also evident in the cracked white makeup of the Joker.

This film is currently ranked 12th in the all-time box office in the United States (it is Nolan's biggest hit in the country). It has also had a strong influence on the 007 series, and is said to have changed the direction of the series to a more serious and realistic direction. Many people will have seen the actions of the villain Silva in Skyfall (2012) as similar to that of the Joker in this film.
