The end of the series' 42-year history

It was truly a grand finale.

Episode 9 of the Star Wars series , Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker(2019), was a splendid finale to the 42-year history of the series, and also the end of a magnificent epic romance spanning three generations of parents and children. The Skywalker family, who have continued to fight and resist between good and evil, will finally be able to put down their lightsabers.

Sentimentality, deep emotion, loneliness... The feelings after seeing everything are indescribable for many audience members. The journey they have traveled with the series will surely come back to life as the credits roll. Simply put, the veteran fans who experienced it in real time are over 40 years old. Some have caught up by watching it on VHS or DVD, while there are new fans who have only seen the sequel trilogy (episodes 7 to 9). The fun of Star Wars is that it has a wide variety of fans, and the depth of generosity that allows everyone to share the excitement in the theater, regardless of age or gender, is what makes this work so appealing.

And perhaps each person's evaluation of this film will vary. Needless to say, the quality of the film is high, but since there is such a wide range of feelings from person to person, it is only natural that there will be some differences in how the story unfolds and the character portrayals are received. Some people will praise it highly, while others will not accept it. In fact, when I watched it at the theater, some audience members were in tears, while others had a lukewarm reaction. As of December 22nd, the audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, America's largest film review site, is 86%, but the overall rating, including critics, is 57% (it has been reported that this is the second lowest rating in the series' history, including other review sites). There are some positive reviews from major newspapers, but also some not so positive ones.

The meaning of the final installment changes depending on the level of concentration and intensity you spend with Star Wars. And that happens on a global level. This film was released almost simultaneously all over the world, and the opening results in the United States are expected to be $215 million, almost the same as the previous two films. However, this number is still monster-class. The previous film, Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017), directed by Rian Johnson of Looper (2012), received very mixed reviews worldwide, but the fact that it still managed to keep the numbers up is nothing short of amazing. Once again, I feel like I've been shown the power of the absolute "master" of the film industry.

Also, while everyone's opinions seem to vary, what everyone seems to have in common is the complex feelings about the fact that it's "over." I thought it was going to be a trilogy from the start. This sequel trilogy was like a gift, and I knew it would end someday. After this film, a new Star Wars movie is planned to be made. But if the story of the Skywalker family disappears from this world, what can we hold onto? There is such a great sense of loss in the theaters where the films have ended that it's even enough to make you feel despair.

Now that we have seen the perfect finale, there is no way we could have wished for any other "ending". However, the more perfect it is, the more we are gripped by the reality that we can no longer watch it. Even if the story of the Skywalker family ends, our lives continue. This may be a very cruel ending in a way.
