Beyond the masterpiece “Raising Arizona”

Another Academy Award award went to the Coen Brothers for Best Original Screenplay. It goes without saying that the intricate situations are created well and the lines are interesting, but what moves me most is the theme of the modest goodness of human beings.

Many of the main characters in Fargo fail because of their greed. On the other hand, the main character, Marge, is an ordinary citizen who is faithful to her duties as a police officer and does household chores when she returns home. It is clear from her first appearance that she has a deep bond with her husband, Norm, who is a painter. When she is woken up by a phone call early in the morning due to the outbreak of a murder, she tells Norm that she can still sleep, but her husband doesn't show any signs of displeasure and gets up and makes breakfast for her. At noon, he stops by the police station and has lunch with his wife. These episodes not only function as a breath of fresh air within the crime drama, but also seem to glorify the small happiness of those who live a simple life.

This becomes even clearer when you compare it with `` The Raising Arizona '' (1987), which the Coen brothers directed nine years before `` Fargo .'' `` Raising Arizona'' is a story about a childless couple who feel it is unfair that quintuplets have been born in their neighborhood, so they kidnap one of them. This couple is by no means evil, but they are unable to accept the reality that they cannot have children. He's a typical example of people who haven't grown up yet, and because I can understand his feelings, I naturally empathize with him when I watch him. This may be a bit off-topic, but I cried when I saw ``Raising Arizona'' when I was a university student.
