Casting for the role of Hannibal was full of twists and turns.

Mads Mikkelsen, the ``Treasure of Scandinavia'', is very popular in Japan. The other day, it was reported that he was in talks to play the role of archenemy Grindelwald in the Harry Potter prequel series, `` Fantastic Beasts, '' replacing the departed Johnny Depp, which caused an uproar on the internet.

Born in 1965, Mikkelsen worked as a dancer before making his feature film debut in Pusher (1996). He has appeared not only in works from his homeland of Denmark, but also in many Hollywood blockbusters such as ` `Casino Royale'' (2006 ), ` `Doctor Strange '' (16), and `` Rogue One: A Star Wars Story '' (16). On the other hand, he won the Best Actor Award at the 65th Cannes Film Festival for `` Innocent '' (2012), proving his ability as an actor. In 2019, he also appeared in Hideo Kojima's The Game` `Death Stranding ,'' which further increased his fan base.

For Mikkelsen, there is one series that can definitely be called his "masterpiece." It's the TV drama "Hannibal." This work depicts a new interpretation of Hannibal Lecter, a character that remains in movie history, and was broadcast for three seasons from 2013 to 2015. It's a popular series that still has people asking for a sequel (it was originally planned for seven seasons, and just last month, executive producer Bryan Fuller talked about the possibility of continuing the series).

“Hannibal Season 1” preview

I'll talk about the charm of the work in detail from here, but first let's take a look at the outline and casting. Although the title of this film is ``Hannibal,'' the main character is Will Graham (Hugh Dancy), an instructor at the FBI academy. He had the special skill of being able to synchronize with the thoughts of the perpetrators of murder cases.

Although Will is an extremely talented profiler, he also suffers from a nervous breakdown due to his abilities. FBI agent Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne) notices Will's extraordinary talent, and instead of dragging Will into the investigation, he hires renowned psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) as a safety device. I decided to attach it. However, that decision had the complete opposite effect...

With such a plot, Hugh Dancy was the first to be cast as the lead (incidentally, he had auditioned for the role of young Hannibal in the movie Hannibal Rising (2007)). Executive producer Bryan Fuller said in an interview that NBC originally wanted Hugh Grant and John Cusack to play Hannibal. However, Fuller and Dancy, who had previously co-starred with Mikkelsen in King Arthur (2004), recommended him for the role of Hannibal. Through persistent negotiations, he was able to land the role (David Tennant was also one of the candidates).

Nowadays, it's hard to think of anyone else to play the role but Mikkelsen, but the decision didn't go smoothly.
