A dark thriller brought to you by David Fincher of ``Seven''...
Director David Fincher is a genius who has always made controversial films that symbolize the times, such as `` Seven '' (1995) and `` Fight Club '' (1999). Many fans are fascinated by his dark visual sense, but his style is not always dark. For example, if you watch `` Gone Girl Girl,'' in which the disappearance of a housewife reveals an epic sexual quarrel, you'll notice elements of black comedy unfolding within the framework of a thriller.
However, the director's intentions are not always understood. Fincher's third feature, The Game(1997), is perhaps his most misunderstood piece of entertainment. Although it was released to great fanfare after the successful film ``Seven'', it did not perform well at the box office and was even described as a failure. However, the fun of this work and the reason why many viewers were confused are almost two sides of the same coin. What on earth did Fincher set up and what did he accomplish?
When talking about ``The Game'', one thing that cannot be overlooked is the ``plot twist'' that awaits at the end. The main character is Nicholas (Michael Douglas), a lonely wealthy man. On his 48th birthday, he receives a strange birthday present from his troubled brother Conrad (Sean Penn). I don't know the details at all, but it seems like you can participate in an event called a "The Game." At first Nicholas intended to ignore it, but when he registers to participate after hearing that it's a ``life-changing experience,'' a mysterious conspiracy begins to take place around him, putting his life in danger.
The biggest trick of the work ``The Game'' is that the director of ``Seven'' shoots it in a thriller style. At the beginning, a collage of the childhood of the main character, Nicholas, is shown on a grainy screen that looks like 8mm film. In fact, the video is a trick that reveals that it was a memory of Nicholas's father attempting suicide by jumping when he was a child.
The use of collage footage with an emphasis on atmosphere was one of the most prominent techniques used in Seven, and it was also the main reason why Fincher's background in music videos was brought up. However, Fincher overcame the current tendency to look down on people with music video backgrounds by incorporating collage footage into the worldview and story of the film.
In his new film `` The Game ,'' which follows `` Seven ,'' Fincher used his specialty in video processing to create an ominous atmosphere from the beginning. Many viewers must have braced themselves for this movie, thinking, ``There's no doubt that this movie is going to have a dark turn.'' After Kanae Minato, who is also well known as the original author of "Confession", the word "Iyamisu" was born in Japan, which is short for "mystery that makes you feel unpleasant", but Fincher's name is no less than Kanae Minato's. It was an ominous sound that foreshadowed an "ear mistake."
