In fact, the work `` The Game '' was scheduled to be made before `` Seven .''

*Okay, I'll give spoilers from here. please note. If you haven't seen it yet, please try watching The Game!

What exactly is a “The Game”? And what is the true identity of the mysterious company “CRS” that organizes The Game? Let me reveal the answer now. In fact, there is no ulterior motive or conspiracy in the "The Game." However, it was actually a birthday present from my younger brother Conrad. The participants of The Game are thrown into the events of the scenario prepared by CRS without knowing it. The final goal was to have a thrilling experience that felt like something out of a movie, and when he was pushed to the limit, he revealed, ``It was a surprise!'' And then it's straight to the fun birthday party!

The main character, Nicholas, encounters a series of outrageous things, including having his car thrown into the ocean, running away from gunfire, and being abducted and buried in a cemetery in Mexico (this scene is an homage to Peckinpah's " The Head of Garcia "). However, in reality, everything was prepared by CRS. Although it is not shown in the movie, there were probably divers waiting in the sea to prevent anything serious, and what appeared to be gunshots were bullets that had been planted in advance by CRS staff, so they were afraid of the danger. The only person who was playing the game was Nicholas, a participant in The Game.

If this epic plot twist, or rather, “Pretending to be 〇〇 but actually being XX” is a plot twist, then “Pretending that 〇〇 is 〇〇 is actually 〇〇!” was established. As mentioned above, this is largely due to Fincher being the director of Seven.

In fact, ``The Game'' was planned to be made before `` Seven .'' However, due to Brad Pitt's availability, they decided to shoot ``Seven'' first, and thanks to ``Seven'' being a big hit, ``The Game'' was made into a movie on a scale that exceeded the original budget. That's what it means.

Fincher brought in (uncredited) screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker, who he worked with on Seven, to rewrite the scenario. I don't know how much the content changed with Walker's participation, but considering Walker's writing style, the easiest way to think of it is that the elements of a dark thriller were strengthened.

However, it is. In the work ``The Game'', the thriller is only an introduction. The audience gradually begins to feel that something is wrong. The real reason for this feeling of discomfort is a pleasant sense of confusion: ``I thought it was a thriller, but now it's starting to look stupid.'' The development that he was buried in Mexico is also crazy, but when Nicholas returns and fights back and threatens the man hired by CRS, ``Now I'm in danger!'' The tension is that Michael Coupled with Douglas's excellent performance, it's a hilarious scene.

In fact, The Game is much closer to a comedy than a thriller. After stirring up a sense of urgency and boiling it down, the punch line awaits: ``You were scared! But it really was your birthday present!'' The director's skill is to bring Max's surprise at the moment when the story is revealed. To that end, Fincher is perhaps even capitalizing on the fact that he made a sensational dark thriller called Seven. At the very least, the audience's preconception that this is a work by the same director who made ``Seven'' tends to make them turn away from the comical elements sprinkled throughout.
