``Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves'' The three ``Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves'' and the strange relationship between the two Kevins
Numerous problems faced at the site
The lead actors and director for the Morgan Creek version were decided, and Robin Wright, who also played the princess in The Princess Bride (1987), was cast as Marion. Co-stars such as Morgan Freeman, Christian Slater, and Alan Rickman were also decided, and filming was about to begin slightly later than the 20th Century Fox version, but problems arose on set. Robin Wright, who was dating Sean Penn at the time, was found to be pregnant (the two married in 1996). She had to drop out at the last minute. Furthermore, the rush to start filming led to the costumes not being ready in time. Kevin Costner did not have time to learn British English (accent), which led to harsh criticism of his American English (accent) at the time of the film's release.
Robin Wright's replacement was Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, who had starred in " The Abyss " (1989) and " The Lawsuit " (1990), four days before filming began. Costume designer John Bloomfield recalled that "I was making costumes for Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman until the day before filming began," so the film's start was in a terrible state. So what was the result of rushing filming at the expense of the director and staff's creativity and the actors' time to prepare for their roles? The 20th Century Fox version wrapped up in January 1991, and the Morgan Creek version of "The Two Kevins" wrapped up in December 1990. In other words, "The Two Kevins" made up for lost time.

This time, 20th Century Fox, which was late, rushed to complete the film and released it in theaters in the UK before the Morgan Creek version. However, the film was not well received, and it was broadcast as a TV movie in the US, and was never released in theaters (it was released in theaters in Japan). Meanwhile, as mentioned above, Kevin Costner's performance in the Morgan Creek version was heavily criticized when it was released in theaters. He was called a dummy, with people saying he was "more like Robin Wood than Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves," and the film received poor reviews in the US. This was in an era when the Internet was not yet developed. The author had no way of knowing about such scandals at the time.
Although the film was criticized by the media, the theme song, " (Everything I Do) I Do It For You " by Bryan Adams , topped the US charts for seven consecutive weeks. It also became a big hit, topping the annual charts, and was popular in Japan. And in fact, contrary to the harsh criticism by the media, "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" was supported by the audience. As proof of this, "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" was a box office success, earning about 165 million dollars in North America alone. About three months before the North American release on June 14, 1991, "Dances with Wolves" won the Best Picture award at the 63rd Academy Awards ceremony, and Kevin Costner had become the talk of the town. In other words, many movie fans were eagerly awaiting his new work.
