Michael Mann's epic battle between men
Directed by Michael Mann, whose TV series ``TOKYO VICE'' depicts an American reporter investigating Tokyo's underworld has become a hot topic.
Along with his `` Heat '' (1995), ``The Insider'' (1999) can be said to be one of his masterpieces from the 1990s. The film is based on a true story, and depicts the fierce battle between a former vice president of a major tobacco company and the show's producers, who exposed the harmful effects of nicotine in cigarettes on a TV news program.
Mann, who depicted the breathtaking battles between criminal professionals and detectives in `` Heat ,'' which included flashy action scenes, will now film a drama of men's mental battles rather than physical battles. In " Heat ," Al Pacino, who played a detective relentlessly hunting down criminals, will play news program producer Lowell Bergman, and Russell Crowe will play tobacco industry whistleblower Jeffrey Weigand. In `` Heat ,'' a mysterious sympathy develops between the detective and the criminal, who were originally in an adversarial relationship, but in ``The Insider,'' the TV producer and the accuser are able to communicate despite their many conflicts. Pacino does a great job playing a character who is sincere to the accusers who appeared on the show.
“The Insider” preview
It seems that the movie had a difficult time at the box office in the United States, perhaps due to the lack of flashy action, but it was nominated for seven Academy Awards that year, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor (Russell Crowe). Crowe was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for the second time for his role in Gladiator (2000), which he won. After that, he was also nominated for the same award for ` `A Beautiful Mind '' (2001), marking his peak as an actor. Although he didn't win the award, Crowe's performance in The Insider is considered one of the best performances of his career, and in 2006, he was named one of the 100 best performances in film history by American film magazine Premiere. > was ranked 23rd.
