``Raiders of the Lost Ark'' Spielberg's ``momentum'' made possible the renaissance of American cinema

The stuntman who rewrote film history

If the action itself was not The Truth, the audience would lose interest in the screen, but "Raiders" never gets boring with its amazing action scenes. One of the biggest contributors to this is stuntman Terry Leonard. The stunt he performed in the car chase at the end of "Raiders" is one that should be remembered forever. Indy gets into a speeding truck to recover the Ark stolen by the Nazis, but he almost falls off the front of the truck while fighting with the enemy. However, Indy manages to slip under the moving truck and survive. This action scene is a homage to the famous stunt in the classic Western film " Stagecoach " (1939) starring John Wayne.

In fact, this scene was suggested by stuntman Leonard. Leonard had attempted a similar stunt in The Lone Ranger (1981) four months prior to the filming of Raiders. However, he was seriously injured during the filming and was not satisfied with the results. In other words, he wanted to try the same stunt again in Raiders to get revenge.

However, there was a problem with the huge gearbox at the bottom of the truck, which would have hit his face. So they dug a trench about 10 centimeters deep and the width of a person in the road, and Leonard crawled under the truck along the trench. This challenge was a brilliant success, and it became the best climax of "Raiders". The determination of one stuntman produced one of the most famous scenes in movie history.
