A legitimate sequel will be released in 2019.
By the way, there were rumors of a sequel to Backdraft in the 90s, but it never materialized, partly because director Ron Howard had publicly stated that he hated sequels. However, in 2019, when everyone had completely forgotten about it, an unexpected sequel was completed by another director. Although it was only released on DVD and digital distribution in the United States, when I watched it with some timidity, I found that it wasn't all that bad.

The main character this time is Stephen's (Kurt Russell) son. In the previous work, he was still a young child, but now he has grown into an adult, and like Baldwin before him, he takes on the job of investigating fires and is chasing down the culprit behind a series of arson attacks.
Baldwin, who plays the role of the uncle, also appears in the film, in a position to reprimand the main character, who often engages in grandstanding. The protagonist, who is stuck in his investigation, ends up in a prison, just like in the previous work. Donald Sutherland, who is over 80 years old, plays the role of Bartel with great presence.
