What the change in director brought about

Josh Trank, who directed `` Chronicle '' (2012), was originally scheduled to direct this film, but Phil Lord, who specializes in comedies such as `` 21 Jump Street '' (2012) and `` The LEGO Movie '' (2014), was originally scheduled to direct. & Chris Miller.

Lord and Miller began filming, doing many different takes with different lines from the script, trying to find a more comedic style. This production method did not suit Lucasfilm's wishes, and he resigned from the project at the end of filming.

Ron Howard was appointed as his successor. Howard has looked up to Lucas as his mentor ever since he appeared as an actor in Lucas's American Graffiti (1973). Even after he turned to directing, they remained close friends, including directing Lucas' original film `` Willow '' (1988). He has produced many successful entertainment blockbusters such as `` The Da Vinci Code '' (2006), and has produced serious dramas such as ` `A Beautiful Mind '' (2001), which won four Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director. Howard, who has a reputation for directing, would have been the best choice for Lucasfilm, which wants to get back on track. Howard completed the film with approximately 70% reshoots.

Howard says that he "aimed to return to the original trilogy," but since Han is the main character, he is unable to depict the Force, Jedi knights, and lightsaber wielding chamberlains, which are important elements of the canon. Instead, the production team created the characters of the human Han Solo, such as the struggle to dream of a happy future with his lover, the joy of making friends, the excitement of running through space in a high-performance machine, and the exhilaration of outsmarting enemies through tactics.
