``Jurassic Park'' (1993) is a dinosaur panic movie that has been a major Hollywood franchise with four series, and now the fifth one, ` `Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom' ', is a huge hit in Japan. . (*As of July 2018 article published)

Considering this success, it seems like the first film was made just yesterday, but 25 years have already passed since its first release. The number of people who were not yet born at the time is increasing, and it is easy to forget that there is a generation that does not know the impact of this movie directed by Steven Spielberg in real time.

In other words, this film has maintained the impact it had when it first appeared to this day, and it shows how much its existence surprised so many movie fans. So, I would like to take this opportunity to once again look back on the achievements that ``Jurassic Park'' brought to the film industry.

The beginning of realistic depictions of dinosaurs

The most shocking thing about ``Jurassic Park'' is that it completely changed the way dinosaurs were depicted in movies. Spielberg is a rare creator who has established the ``before'' and ``after'' concepts in commercial films, and in this film he puts ``before'' and ``after'' into practice as well.

Spielberg's goal with this film was to portray dinosaurs as wild animals rather than unrealistic monsters. Michael Crichton (`` The Andromeda Pathogen '', ``The Lost City of Gold ''), who wrote the original work, had a semi-documentary style that interweaved concrete social examples and scientific theories, and he was inspired to create genetically engineered dinosaurs. It was inevitable that this work, which aims to bring people back to life, would aim for reality.

However, the dinosaurs that have appeared in movies up until now have been depicted as somewhat clichéd from the aforementioned perspective, such as costumed costumes or real lizards with special make-up. Among them are stop-motion artists such as Willis O'Brien ( The Lost World (25), King Kong (33)) and Ray Harryhausen ( One Million Years of Dinosaurs (1966), Gwanji the Dinosaur (1969)). (Stop-motion) The animation master used his craftsmanship to create a fantastical image of a dinosaur, but Spielberg wanted it to have its tail flapping like The Wrestler and wrestle like a wrestler. There was a marked difference in direction from the ecological depiction.

Additionally, a scientific revolution called the ``dinosaur renaissance'' was occurring in the field of paleontology. The prevailing theory was that dinosaurs were warm-blooded rather than cold-blooded animals, and reconstructions of dinosaurs began to depict them as having inherited the ecology of birds, rather than the traditional reptilian roots. Changes in the image of dinosaurs based on these new theories caused a stir and prompted a change in the depiction of dinosaurs in pop culture.

They are intelligent, move quickly, and hunt in packs. ``Jurassic Park'' sought to create images of dinosaurs that would look natural even if they were published as nature photographs in ``National Geographic'' magazine, and this led to the creation of a film.
