What redemption and hope bring to the audience in ``The Shawshank Redemption''

Is Andy the second coming of Christ?

In the movie, the scene in which Andy and several other inmates buy beer and enjoy a momentary paradise while painting tar on the roof of the prison is filled with a sense of bliss that is overwhelming. Critics view Andy as a Christ or savior, and some view the beer scene as the prison's "last supper."

The same goes for the scene where Andy takes over the broadcasting room and plays `` The Marriage of Figaro '' at high volume throughout the office. The Christian mysticism that pervades the film, that every sinner must be saved, is most dramatically expressed in the final scene, which is original to the film and not depicted in the original work.

After its release, a storm of rave reviews arose once again.

Like `` Somewhere in Time, '' which I previously wrote on this site, ``The Shawshank Redemption'' was also poorly received at the box office. The film was well-received by critics for Darabont's precise script and direction, Robbins and Freeman's performances, and dramatic developments, but the film was only released after earning $16 million. When the movie was released in theaters in 1994, the buzz was focused on `` Forest Gump ╱ Once in a Lifetime '' and `` Pulp Fiction ,'' data shows that prison movies are not hits in the first place, there are no actresses in the movie, etc. This was said to be the reason, but the story begins here.

The film subsequently won numerous film awards, including the Academy Award, and was well received outside the United States, so it was re-released and ultimately grossed approximately $28.3 million at the box office. Additionally, over 320,000 VHS copies were shipped across the United States, making it the top rental of 1995. It has been aired regularly on Turner Broadcasting System's TNT network, founded by Ted Turner, since 1997, and is still in that cycle as of 2017.

In Japan, it was ranked 9th in the ranking of video and DVD movies released since TSUTAYA's 30th anniversary. It was also screened at the ``10am Film Festival,'' which started in 2010, and was sold out every day.
