1. “Dark Star” (74)

This parody is a remake of a short story that Carpenter and Dan O'Bannon, who wrote the original idea and screenplay for `` Alien '' (1979) and directed the Dawn of the Dead splatter masterpiece `` The Return of the Living Dead '' (1985), made while attending the film department at the University of Southern California. Full of cult science fiction.

The exploration ship Dark Star travels far into space in search of a colony. The bomb that was loaded on the ship to blow up the planet malfunctioned when it entered the meteor shower. The crew tries to convince a high-powered bomb with a thinking mechanism to stop an explosion inside the ship, but... The legendary beach ball-shaped Alien also appears. A monumental work in which the talents of Carpenter and O'Bannon first blossomed.

2. “John Carpenter’s Fortress Police” (76)

A man whose life is being threatened by a street gang runs into a police station where he is moving. Armed pursuers quickly surrounded the building. The police station, with only a few personnel and weapons and ammunition, has been cut off from communication with the outside world, leaving it isolated and without help. An action thriller in which police lieutenant Ethan teams up with imprisoned criminal Napoleon to barricade himself inside the police station and fight the enemy.

Created as an homage to Howard Hawks' ` `Rio Bravo '' (1959), which Carpenter adores, the characters include street gangs that roam around police stations and silent thugs dressed in sleeveless and boot-in fashion. This idea was later carried over to `` Escape from New York. ''

3. "Halloween" (78)

A historic horror work that made Carpenter's name known around the world. Michael, who murdered his own sister with a kitchen knife, escapes from a mental hospital and returns to his hometown on Halloween night. Wearing a white mask and armed with a kitchen knife, Michael goes on a killing spree, despite the pursuit of his doctor, Loomis. High school girl Laurie, who was working part-time as a babysitter, is also targeted for her life...

The screams of the heroine, Jamie Lee Curtis, are impressive. This film, which depicts the fear of not being able to help even if you scream, was a big hit as a pioneer of murderer films due to its low budget but colorful production. It is known as the highest grossing independent film of its time. Since then, the series has continued for over 40 years, and Carpenter himself was in charge of the music for the latest work, `` Halloween Kills '' (21).
