The charm of “multiplication” in Rian Johnson’s works

There are many filmmakers in this world who create something from scratch, but that's not the case with Rian Johnson. Looking at his filmography to date, it is easy to see that all of his works are heavily influenced by existing works and genres.

For example, his directorial debut, Brick (2005), was groundbreaking in its bold combination of the traditional "noir detective story" and "school drama" genres. And this work, ``LOOPER/Looper'' (12), is a time travel science fiction movie reminiscent of `` The Terminator '' (1984), ``Back to the Future '' (1985), and `` Twelve Monkeys '' (1995). , a fusion of gangster stories created by the men who control the town. Furthermore, in the second half, the essence of Katsuhiro Otomo's work is released vigorously.

“LOOPER” preview

However, just because he is influenced by his influences does not mean that his work is like an obedient servant. Rather, it takes us, the viewers, to a thrilling and unprecedented state, creating mutations that cannot be followed by simple counting methods such as ``from zero to one'' or ``from one to two''. I guess you could say that's the charm of Rian Johnson.
