Driven by nostalgia, memories from 20 years ago come back to his mind. At that time, Stevens, who was always loyal to his master, and Kenton, who was strong-willed, had repeated conflicts over work. Little by little, the two began to develop feelings for each other, but there was no way Stevens would notice, as he prioritized work first. Meanwhile, the topic of marriage comes up for Kenton. Anthony Hopkins' signature book

Anthony Hopkins, a famous British actor, won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 2021 for `` The Father '' at the age of 83. He is said to be the oldest nominee and winner of the Best Actor Award. Nowadays, there is a trend of aging actors around the world, and older actors, both male and female, are active, but it is still amazing to see someone in their 80s lead the role. Moreover, when you look at the main story, almost all of it comes out. He supports the entire film.

Hopkins first received an Oscar nomination for his role as cannibal Dr. Lecter in ``The Silence The Silence of the Lambs '' in 1991. Although his acting time was not very long, his role had a great impact, and you could feel his presence throughout the movie.

Director Jonathan Demme suggested to the studio, ``We'd love for Hopkins to play this role!'' According to Hopkins' critical biography Anthony Hopkins: In Darkness and Light (Pan Books), published in 1994, the studio was reluctant to cast an Englishman to play Dr. Lecter because he was set to be an American. Demme, who had praised Hopkins' performance in `` The Elephant Man '' (1980), wanted him to play the role and persuaded the studio. I thought it was necessary. Lecter is a person who can't let his guard down, and that's what makes him scary. He's a character whose humanity and intelligence come out in a distorted way." Demi's testimony is quoted in the book.

Demme's point was correct, and Hopkins' human charm and intelligence in the role made the film a breakthrough success. Hopkins himself seems to have had higher expectations for director Michael Cimino's The Fugitive (1990) than the other Hollywood films he appeared in around the same time, but Cimino's film ended up being a flop. Demme's film, which was less well-known than his, became more popular and won the Oscar for Best Picture. Hopkins himself won the Best Actor award.

“The Remains of the Day” preview

His second Oscar nomination came for his role as a British butler in The Remains of the Day(1993). Director James Ivory's film adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro's Booker Prize-winning novel (released in 1989) won not only Best Actor, but also Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actress, etc. , has been nominated in 8 categories.

Director Ivory is known for works such as `` A Room with a View '' (1985, Oscar nominee for Best Picture) and `` Maurice '' (1987), and has a reputation for literary film adaptations, but he was not a director from the beginning. It doesn't seem like it was.
