The lost Neill Blomkamp version

In 2009, they acquired Marvel, gaining control over many American comic book heroes, and in 2012, they acquired Lucasfilm and gained the huge franchise "Star Wars". Now, no one doubts that Disney is a leading company in pop culture. Then, in 2019, they invested a huge amount of $71.3 billion to acquire 21st Century Fox, bringing the great "Alien" series under their umbrella.

If you think about it, the "Alien" franchise is quite unique. For each film, they invite filmmakers with strong artistic talent and allow them to be completely original. Ridley Scott created " Alien " (1979) as a quiet horror film. James Cameron made " Aliens " (1986) into an action film full of firearms. David Fincher made " Alien³ " (1992) with religious themes. And Jean-Pierre Jeunet brought out the kitschy, bad taste of " Alien 4 " (1997).

In the early days of the Mission: Impossible series, a diverse group of directors, including Brian De Palma, John Woo, J.J. Abrams, and Brad Bird, were involved in the direction of the series, but since Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation (2015), Christopher McQuarrie has been in charge of the series. The Alien series is a rare one, with each film directed by a different director, and each film has a different style.

Although the spin-offs " Alien vs. Predator " (2004) and " AVP2: Aliens vs. Predator " (2007) and the prequels " Prometheus " (2012) and " Alien: Covenant " (2017) were made, the "Alien 5" project had been floating around for a long time. Neill Blomkamp, known for " District 9 " (2009) and " Elysium " (2013), was once selected to direct the film, but the project was ultimately shelved.

The failed Blomkamp version was conceived as a direct sequel to " Aliens, " and was supposed to bring back Sigourney Weaver, who starred in " Chappie ," as The Talented Mr. Ripley. It was also said to have ignored the storyline from " Alien³ " onwards, and to bring back characters such as Bishop, Newt, and Corporal Hicks.

Neill Blomkamp said, "I feel bad for Sigourney. I wish I could have done one more movie with her, for the audience who loved Alien , in a way that satisfied what they wanted, and what I wanted." (*1)

He also jokingly added the following comment:

"Maybe Ridley Scott saw ' Chappie ' and thought, 'This guy can't do ' Alien ,' let's move on.'" (*2)
