The taste of the previous work was cut off

First, let's review the previous film, Aliens (1986). The first film, which was Ridley Scott's breakthrough, was a full-scale sci-fi horror, but James Cameron, who was in charge of directing the second film, decided to emphasize the action and humanism. The heroine The Talented Mr. Ripley , who is the only survivor of a deadly battle with a violent alien creature, the Alien , returns to her fateful planet, which has now become a colony planet for humans, and rescues the only surviving girl, Newt. Hicks, a soldier who was sympathetic to The Talented Mr. Ripley, also fights hard, and the two, who survived under extreme conditions, form a bond that could be called a pseudo-family.

Thanks to this warmth of humanism, and the spread of home video, the film's fan base increased, and in 1986 James Cameron won the Kinema Junpo reader's award for Best Foreign Film Director. In fact, many fans of the series say they like this series better than the first one, which was completely focused on horror.

However, the production of "Alien 3" began with the goal of erasing the setting of the previous film, which was beloved by many audiences. Both Newt and Hicks were dead, and only The Talented Mr. Ripley survived... What on earth was the episode depicting the pseudo-family bond in the previous film? Couldn't they have made use of it? That's what the voices saying it was "an insult to the previous film" meant. Incidentally, Cameron, who turned down the offer to direct this film, also directed " The Terminator 2 " (1991) around the same time. Here too, he incorporated the pseudo-family bond into the drama, leading the film to become a worldwide hit.
