Once filming began, new problems arose. Lucas' hometown of Modesto, which he had chosen as the filming location, had transformed into a completely different town than when he lived there, so he had no choice but to change the location to San Rafael, also in California. However, he was kicked out after just one day. One of the film crew members was arrested for growing marijuana, causing delays in the filming schedule and causing disruption to local businesses, so the city council ordered the crew to leave. The nomadic crew eventually arrived in Petaluma, a town about 30 kilometers from San Rafael by car, and filming resumed safely on June 28, 1972.
However, a further problem arises. The source of this issue is the cast. First, one of the four main cast members, Paul Le Mat, who plays John Milner, is rushed to the hospital due to an allergy caused by a walnut he inadvertently ingested.

Le Mat, Harrison Ford (who was a carpenter by trade at the time), and Beau Hopkins would get drunk almost every night after filming, and under the influence of alcohol they would climb onto the sign of the Holiday Inn where they were staying. An actor, whose name is withheld, sets a motel on fire. Le Mat throws Richard Dreyfuss, who plays Kurt Henderson, into the pool, and Dreyfuss cuts his forehead. (The day before the close-up of the face was taken), and many other things, but somehow the shooting was completed in about 4 weeks.
