Thinking back to when America was at peace

As mentioned above, a literal youth drama was unfolding even behind the scenes of filming. In the summer of 1962, the ramblings of a day in the life of young people going in and out of Modesto's "Mel's Drive-in" are sketched out in a graffiti-like style, set to a roaring rock'n'roll melody. The actors themselves were reliving the story written in the script.

It was a film that will be passed down forever, capturing the last of the innocent and peaceful days of America. The innocent scenes of Kurt and John cruising through the night will surely be nostalgic and fresh to the young people of today's America, or even the young people of the world, as we move from an era of war to an era of division.

Incidentally, American Graffiti, which cost $777,000 to make, ended up grossing $115 million, making it one of the most profitable films of all time at the time. Universal must have been proud of its success, while its rival Hollywood majors couldn't imagine the finished product.
