I love these two villains so much!

As with the previous Joker, the two villains in this film stand out even more than Batman. No, you could say that he stands out even more than the Joker. The Joker in the previous movie was a criminal from the moment he first appeared. However, Penguin and Catwoman are humans who were in unfortunate circumstances when they first appeared, and are portrayed as villains that leave room for sympathy.

If you ask Burton, he doesn't have much sympathy. "I love Batman, I love the Penguin, I love Catwoman, and I love the world they live in. They're all completely confused characters, and that's why they're beautiful," he says.

Penguin was born with a deformity, so he carries with him the past of being abandoned by his parents when he was a baby. As a result, his grudge against Gotham runs deep, and he seeks to satisfy his twisted desires through acts of destruction. Catwoman, on the other hand, was originally a plain and inconspicuous secretary to the president of a large company, but when she found out about the president's conspiracy, she was thrown out of a window and lost her life. She gained energy from the stray cats that gathered there and was reborn as Catwoman. To take revenge on those who killed him.

In other words, both were socially disadvantaged to begin with. It is ironic that Bruce Wayne, who is trying to defeat them, is a businessman on the side of society's powerful. Even he has doubts about whether he should really defeat this villain!? When this happens, it becomes difficult to tell who is the villain. If the characters are confused, the story is also confused. In Burton's words, "That's why it's beautiful."
