The culmination of Richard Linklater
Director Richard Linklater is known as a charismatic figure in American independent films, and has left an important mark on film history many times through his experimental style, while also producing entertainment films for major producers. Among his extensive body of work, ``Where'd You Go, Bernadette.
Why does this work have the meaning of a culmination? This is because various elements of Linklater's previous works fit into this one work. What amazes me most is how even the experimental aspects naturally contribute to the composition and direction. Even so, this film is a highly accomplished piece of entertainment, and even people who are not fans of Linklater can enjoy it.

The original work is a YA (young adult) novel by Maria Semple, which was a New York Times bestseller and won the American Library Association Alex Award in 2013. The story is an adventure comedy made up of letters and emails. Director Linklater, who also co-wrote the screenplay, skillfully transforms the structure into a feature film style, and uses his advanced understanding of film and philosophical thinking to brilliantly reconstruct the original work.
The role of Bernadette Fox, who is the center of the story, was said to be played by the famous actor Cate Blanchett at an early stage. Inevitably, the film also had the characteristics of a creative collaboration between director Linklater and Blanchett. After watching this film, everyone will understand why Blanchett coveted the role. There are probably not many protagonists who have such multifaceted charm and background, and who are able to set various themes within their characters.
