"Object X from the planet" (82)

How can you use J&B other than to beat the cold?

Director: John Carpenter Cast: Kurt Russell

When you drink whiskey when it's cold, it burns your throat and sinks into your stomach, creating a pleasant, fluffy heat around your ears and shoulders. It can be said to be the ultimate cold protection. In addition to this, whiskey is used as a symbol of suspicion in `` Object from Planet X.' '

Antarctica in winter. American Antarctic crew members are attacked by mysterious space creatures just after rescuing a dog that has escaped from a research station in Norway. Justerini & Brooks' popular Scotch whisky, ``J&B Rare,'' warms the soldiers in the freezing cold.

In addition to its fruity aroma and well-balanced taste, it is also reasonably priced, making it easy to enjoy in highballs and coke highs. In addition, the large red "J&B" letters on the yellow label are distinctive and designed to stand out even in dimly lit bars. The main character, MacCready (Kurt Russell), carries a bottle of J&B Rare in his first and last scene.

The last scene after the battle with the space creatures. MacCready's colleague Childs comes to see him after he blows up the so-called "Blair Monster," which has destroyed most of the base and has become gigantic, taking in soldiers and even dogs. However, the two can't trust each other because their bodies may have been taken over by an alien creature, but McCready hands Childs a bottle of J&B Rare, saying it's his last drink.

What is whispered in this scene is the suspicion that ``Childs is being taken over by an alien creature at this time.'' Outdoors in Antarctica. The reason for this is that while McCready is breathing out a cold, white breath, Childs's breath cannot be seen. And one more thing. It is suspected that the J&B bottle that McCready gave Childs contained helicopter fuel rather than whiskey.

While fighting the alien creatures, McCready had several J&B bottles filled with fuel strapped to his waist to throw as Molotov cocktails. Thinking that all of his friends had died and he was the last one standing, McCready burned himself to death and prepared a bottle to prevent the extraterrestrial creatures from crossing over to the mainland. At that moment, Childs appeared.

When you think about it this way, doesn't the meaning of McCready's line, "Let's just wait and see what happens" when he hands him the bottle, have a different meaning?
